The Race. 1200

June 26th, 2011

20 hours in, 75% of race distance

Car 248 (Cockerton, Corbett, Eady & Hicks)

Continues to hold it's class lead by 4 (nearly 5) laps, and now holds 94th overall.

Nothing to report, the car continues to run perfectly and the drivers are posting good times but taking no risk.

Car 247 (McGovern, Taylor, Spark & Lowrey)

Has had a couple of unscheduled pit-stops to rectify a noise and pull in the steering.

A bottom front suspension arm bolt had dissappeared - possibly the result of one of the previous incidents with the armco and another vehicle.

At 20hours they sit 3rd in class, and in position 117 overall.

The Race. 1100

June 26th, 2011

Sorry about the lack of posts for a while. I hope you've been keeping up-to-date over facebook and twitter :)

The cars have been driving well throughout the race, with no major problems.

1000

The Honda's are still in 1st and 3rd in class. Although there are only 3 cars left, as 2 have dropped out.

The Norwegian's are still 2nd, and are a serious threat with their slick tyres. We are only racing on dot rated tyres.

1100

5 hours to go. The sun is out. Temperatures are finally in the double digits. The track is dry, and the race pace has increased. Drivers are each on their last lot of laps.

There have been some spectacular crashes over the past 19 hours.
A Mercedes has ended up with no wheels after going over the barrier, and a BMW lots it's suspension doing the same thing.

There have also been a lot of coned off sections of the track, whilst incidents are cleared, which has been frustrating for the drivers as they have had to slow right down to pass.

The Race. 0100

June 26th, 2011

Brian McGovern has just come off (0100).

Another car hit the front wheel of car 247, spun off track and crashed. Brian managed to hold his line, and drove on with no delays.

Brian's comments:
It's hard work. The field is much faster than ever before. It's a constant battle for the slower cars as the fast ones and continuously coming at you.

0110

The Honda's are now 1st and 3rd in class.
Car 248 is 1st, and is 2 laps ahead of the Norwegians who are in 2nd place. Car 247 is 3rd, but only 3mins behind the Norwegians.

The blue Peugeot, car #206, is nowhere to be seen, with at least 10 laps behind 1st place.

0115

Rod Hicks just off. Comments... There have been a couple of good crashes from other cars on track. You need to drive on the grass to avoid the mess.

Rod also lost power in the car during his laps. Then he realised he'd knocked the key out...

Campground updates include, a fire in the trees @ bottom of Fox Hole, and 2 fire trucks were parked on track for 6 laps putting it out. Rod (and the rest of the other cars on track) could only do 40km/h, instead of 180!!

0212

Honda 247 has moved from 3rd, up to 2nd place in class (with Car 248 still in 1st).

The Norwegian's had spun out with a broken right-hand half shaft.

0230

Jeff Lowrey has just come in with 2x tyres punctured.

No sweat, new tyres on car and Greg Spark is out to burn some rubber!!
